ISF Annual Meetings 2025: Shaping the Next Chapter

Brussels, Belgium – Over 140 members from ISF’s various working groups gathered in ‘the heart of Europe’ from 3–7 November 2025 for the ISF Annual Meetings (formerly known as the Midterm Meetings).

This year’s gathering marked a milestone as participants concluded work under the ISF Key Strategic Objectives (KSOs) 2021–2025 and set the stage for the KSOs 2026–2030.

In the next phase, ISF is implementing a project-based approach to foster greater focus, collaboration, and impact across ISF’s working groups, ensuring the organization remains agile and aligned with the evolving needs of the global seed sector.

Information Session

A highlight of the week was the Information Session, during which ISF had the honor of welcoming Catherine Geslain-Lanéelle, Director of Strategy and Policy at DG AGRI of the European Commission, thanks to the support of Euroseeds. In her address, Ms. Geslain-Lanéelle underscored the importance of the European seed sector’s active participation in EU consultations, noting that European policies often have ripple effects that influence markets and regulations far beyond its borders.

ISF also took the opportunity to share updates on the upcoming KSOs 2026–2030, highlighting the transition to a project-based way of working. The session was led by ISF President Arthur Santosh Attavar and Vice President Lorena Basso, who outlined how this new structure will enhance collaboration and deliver more targeted results across ISF’s initiatives.

In a special moment during the session, ISF Secretary General Michael Keller, together with Andy LaVigne and Samuel Crowell from the American Seed Trade Association, presented a recognition award to Tom Nickson in appreciation of his outstanding contributions to ISF’s work, particularly on the International Treaty on Plant Genetic Resources for Food and Agriculture. As Tom prepares for retirement, the entire ISF community extends its heartfelt thanks and best wishes for this next chapter.

Visiting the heart of European democracy

Being in Brussels also offered some members a unique opportunity to visit the European Parliament. During the guided tour, participants explored the Hemicycle and gained insights into the world’s largest transnational parliament, its powers, responsibilities, and role in promoting European democracy.
